Democrats say: We Want Saddam Back!

In their repudiation of their Iraq war votes, Democrats seem to forget what the logical conclusion is of their desire to travel back in time:

1) The proximate cause of going to war was Saddam's refusal to tell the United Nation's what had become of Iraq's known weapons of mass destruction.

2) If the Coalition Forces had never invaded and had not removed the Hussein regime, we would still not know what happend to the WMD programs identified by the UN.

3) Therefore, when Democrats say that they were wrong to authorize force against Saddam, they are saying they wish to return to a time when Saddam and his sons were still in power AND we did not know whether or not he still had the WMD programs identified by the UN.

The Democrats are selling a claim that it is possible to imagine travelling back in time and create a world were Saddam is well-contained AND we know for a fact he has no WMD. However, the two are mutually exclusive.

Will Russert Get the Miller-Treatment?

Given that Tim Russert, Washington Bureau Chief for NBC News, has provided testimony to Patrick Fitzgerald in the Plame case -- when might we expect the demands for Russert "to tell us everything he knows" to reach Miller-like proportions?

Will Jay Rosen, Steve Lovelady, and Howie Kurtz ever demand of Timmy-boy what they demanded of Judy Miller?.... I doubt it.

Seems like the old boy network is alive and well.

Libby, Miller, Aspens and Israel

Scooter Libby wrote to Judith Miller:

“You went into jail in the summer. It is fall now. You will have stories to cover—Iraqi elections and suicide bombers, biological threats and the Iranian nuclear program. Out West, where you vacation, the aspens will already be turning. They turn in clusters, because their roots connect them. Come back to work—-and life. Until then, you will remain in my thoughts and prayers.”

What is it about Aspens, Libby, and Miller? Well, this is what the Wikipedia says, "The aspen tree's quivering leaves are, in Christian lore, said to be the result of arrogance at the Crucifixion because the aspen did not tremble like other trees. A German version claims that the aspen was the only tree to refuse to acknowledge Jesus' divinity. The cross that Christ was crucified on is sometimes said to have been aspen wood. As aspens do not occur in Israel, this legend is improbable. It is also sometimes said that aspen leaves are made from female tongues, and their quivering is due to women's inability to stop talking."

What binds Miller and Libby is their love of Israel. Libby is telling Miller that what "connects them" together is their common wish for a successful Jewish homeland.

The The Times Picayune's excellent (and much lauded) pre-Katrina stories reported that the Red Cross had predicted well over 14,000 deaths in New Orleans should a massive hurricane hit.

Given that the death toll is likely to be less than 1,000 in New Orleans, shouldn't President Bush and FEMA be congratulated for saving the lives of over 13,000 Americans or are such reports only noted when they are to the political detriment of the President?

The New York Times: Until Successor Is Confirmed, Powell Pledges to Work Hard:

"'It has always been my intention that I would serve one term,' Mr. Powell told reporters in a televised briefing from the State Department early this afternoon.

'In recent weeks and months, President Bush and I have talked about foreign policy and we've talked about what to do at the end of the first term,' Mr. Powell said. 'After we had had a chance to have good and fulsome discussions on it, we came to mutual agreement that it would be appropriate for me to leave at this time.'"

I'd say this was all a rather "interesting" way to phrase is leaving. Hmmm.

Thank You Notes to Margaret Marshall

Margaret Marshall, Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, did more than anyone in America to assure a Bush victory. Despite the wishes of voters in the Commonwealth, Justice Marshall changed thousands of years of human history by asserting that the concept of "marriage" included men who lived with men, and women who lived with women. This issue became a rallying cry across the nation for the many millions of ordinary folks that hold traditional values and reject the idea that a handful of elites can change our culture solely on the concept of political correctness.

The Boston Globe's Ridiculous Headline

Today's Boston Globe features an enormous frontpage headline that reads: "Kerry Vows Freedom Anew".

Freedom for who?
Freedom from what?
Freedom where?
What Freedom was there"before" that we have to "get back"?
What is the Globe TALKING ABOUT?

In the history of incomprehensible headlines, surely, this one stands out. Is it possible that Kerry said so little of substance in his speech that the Globe just didn't know what to write?

It's possible.

Will Laci's Mom Speak at Convention?
 
The Democrats seem to be scoring some political points on the use of human embryos in scientific experiments, but perhaps the Bush folks could counter with an emotional appeal of their own in the person of Sharon Rocha - Laci Peterson's mom.

Ms. Rocha was a strong supporter of "Laci's Law", a law that recognizes an unborn child as a separate crime victim when a pregnant mom is attacked. She wrote an emotional appeal to Senator Kerry and he refused to take her advice.

Perhaps the speach of Ron Reagan will soon be overshadowed by the determined voice of a would-be grandma fighting for the memory of her grandson Conner.

Something Fishy when Patriot Act is Mentioned

Call me a cynic, but I'm always suspicious when an Internet geek gets caught up in some strange doings and immediately blames the Patriot Act for his troubles.  The Patriot Act is simply a code word for the Left to check their brains at the door and follow blindly the latest alleged outrage.

"And perhaps most disturbing of all, it was later revealed that the FBI invoked a provision of the USA Patriot Act to obtain financial records from his ISP. "

Here is a snippet from the worst speech ever made by an American President. Imagine coming home from a 10 hour day at work and listening to this garbage?

The threat is nearly invisible in ordinary ways. It is a crisis of confidence. It is a crisis that strikes at the very heart and soul and spirit of our national will. We can see this crisis in the growing doubt about the meaning of our own lives and in the loss of a unity of purpose for our Nation.

The erosion of our confidence in the future is threatening to destroy the social and the political fabric of America.

The confidence that we have always had as a people is not simply some romantic dream or a proverb in a dusty book that we read just on the Fourth of July. It is the idea which founded our Nation and has guided our development as a people. Confidence in the future has supported everything else -- public institutions and private enterprise, our own families, and the very Constitution of the United States. Confidence has defined our course and has served as a link between generations. We've always believed in something called progress. We've always had a faith that the days of our children would be better than our own.

Our people are losing that faith, not only in government itself but in the ability as citizens to serve as the ultimate rulers and shapers of our democracy.
